After a healthy Breakfast at Spring Garden Nursey which was good and fairly nearby Richard looked more cheerful, we set off again. This time headed for Lewes. My bum was really suffering by now, in fact everything was suffering, shoulders, neck legs you name it, it was hurting! We stopped at Truleigh Hill YHA for lunch and they charged up my phone again! It was then we Richard noticed he had a slow puncture and along with the phone charger I had left the repair kit at home (did I say we were travelling light)! It was then a bit slow going as we stop so Richard could pump up his tyre and it was getting worse.
We reached Pycombe, a small village with a view to resting and deciding what to do. When we met our own ‘local hero’ Keith doing some work on a bike on his drive. No he didn’t have a puncture repair kit but he offered to take Richard to get it repaired. Keith made me a cup of tea and then took Richard and offending front wheel in his car to the nearest bike place! I sat in his front garden enjoying the day and reading about his luxury B & B that cost less than the church we had just stayed in!! When they got back we had tour of Duck Lodge I wish we had stayed there, it was lovely! Thank you Keith, You are on my list of places to stay for future adventures. We left him with a puncture repair kit too!
We carried on with some trepidation as to what our next accommodation would be like. I was pretty sure it said a shower and put it this way, I’m glad we weren’t riding a tandem. The ride was lovely the views and scenery wonderful. The sun was casting long shadows as we arrived at The Garden Room (bookings tim@gorringe.eu), Lewes and our hosts Tim and Sue were there to welcome us. The accommodation was lovely a bed and a sofa bed, spotless, private and perfect for two very exhausted cyclists. The day ended well, we got a takeaway and chilled out not realising the worst was to come….
