The best day for me was a walk around Volcán El Cuervo not far from the vineyards of La Geria. I thought it truly wonderful to walk into the crater of a dormant Volcano.
Sue said when they had come ten years before there was no vegetation at all but now there are dots of canary sorrel (I think, I have proudly identified it). It now has a marked path and I expect before long you will have to pay to visit.
Its quite lonely and there were lizards everywhere and when the girls moved away a bit and I was sat quietly by myself they came out en mass (gallotia atlantica atlantica).
There are notices all around asking people to stay on the marked path, not to shout etc. The environment is so fragile. So what do the locals do? Let their kids run up the sides yelling and trampling the vegetation, I was so cross and I could see Maria was too! So armed with my very poor Spanish I though I’d try and persuade them to stop spoiling such a unique place. For a moment thought I was going to have another Spanish woman rant at me this week but, though she sat stoney faced for a while she suddenly told the kids to come down. I know I’m a spoil sport but hey!
