We went to Lake St Clare for a night walk in the hope of seeing a Platypus. Apparently they are three times bigger in Tasmania than on the mainland.
The sky was so clear and quite magical, looking up at the milky way without light pollution.
Our group was a bit loud initially so any animals would have been frightened off.
I walked with Nancy and slowly everyone calmed down and we saw pademelon, wambat, Bennet’s wallaby and possom. The wallaby looked so cuddly but they are quite aggressive, can run up to 20k an hour and bite out the Achilles tendon of a would be attacker. We bunched up and moved away really quickly. Wallaby scat is square so it doesn’t roll, and that’s how they mark there territory.
Back at camp the temperature dropped very suddenly in the night and was freezing. I had to borrow and extra sleeping bag by three in the morning. Still jet lagged.
