Tasmania West, Day Five Cradle Mountain

I was up before Led Zeppelin and I felt rough, my chest hurt and breathing too deeply made me want to cough. I knew we were visiting Cradle Mountain and I was wondering what I was going to be able to do.
John Thumb and Potato were going ‘Canyoning’. I definitely felt I should avoid that but, I was not sure how much walking I was going to do either.
The Landscape is alpine with the Tas version of alpine plants, Gaultheria, King Billy Pine and Leptospermum (Tea Tree). Cradle Mountain peak is visible on average 38 days in the year and as we arrived in the park the clouds disappeared and we could see her in all her glory.
Frank and Nancy opted to walk around Dove Lake. Willow, Siobhan and Jess wanted a more strenuous walk with a bit of climbing up to Hansons Peak. I decided I would go with the latter and turn back if it was too tough.
It was hard particularly pulling myself up a section of smooth rock on chains. I did it and was rewarded by amazing views of the eirie high altitude twisted lakes and beyond, utterly stunning!

The end of the Safari and we headed to Launceston and our separate ways.

En route we came across an echidna a weird little egg laying mammal. The Tas version is more furry to keep it warm.

John Thumb and I will be on the next Safari on Monday along the Eastern Side of Tasmania.

Hopefully I’ll be clean, rested and cold free by then.

I thought I’d leave you with a video of the Pademelon at one of the camp sites.
