I wanted to see if I could get near to Mount Sunday via a road. Why? Because that’s where Edoras was filmed in Lord of the Rings.
Well I was not prepared, I should have filled up the car and set off earlier. Anyway as I drove into Mountain Country the weather was changing and I could see rain in the peaks. Hakatere Potts Road leads into the Hakatere Conservation Area. The road is 24km long and mostly unsealed and gravel. It was slow going, beautiful grasslands but, I was keeping and eye on the weather!
It became quite gruelling as road was turning into a little river in places. I went over the most flimsy looking bridge and I eventually made it. It was raining and the wind was ferocious ( as at Edoras) so I took a few pictures and beat a hasty retreat.
I was worrying about the fuel in the Snail as all this slow driving was taking its toll.
I was so happy to get back onto a sealed road.
Later I heard about the bridge on the west coast that was washed away. The article in below:

I intend to visit Mount Sunday with Lee in a couple of weeks but only if the weather is fine.

Looks fab…will tell Lee not to read this bit although we did indeed see the poor bridge’s demise ☹️ But fortunately no-one was hurt 😊……I am sure that Lord of the Rings Country won’t know what to do with your two!😱
