New Zealand – Singing at last

A really quick post for the benefit of Maria, Sue and Julie. The singing has been really lacking on this trip unlike Lanzarote. All that changed today! Almost on a par with the singing chefs at Playa Blanca!

I had a meal with other timeshare owners tonight in the Restaurant at Mount Hutt. It was a really lovely affair and the food was excellent.

Jo and Butch Stern, the owners of the site do pretty much everything from cooking to cleaning on the site. They are both charming, Butch is from the USA and a really good chef and Jo is Australian. They met later in life and are keen on golf, skiing and used to surf together.

Much to my astonishment between courses Jo came out with a guitar and sang ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and a couple of other songs including a Maori lullaby. Butch joined in on one of the songs by playing the blues harp. She has a fabulous and unusual voice. She told us she used to sing in clubs and in a ski resort. I’m very surprised no one has recorded her and I had deliberately not taken my phone grr!

Anyway I’ve had my singing fix and a glass of wine…..I need to lie down!

  2. They should have sung ”Rain, rain rain coming down…” looking at the main road over the bridge. I remember huge boulders on the main road South of Kaikoura when I was there following a metre of rain.

I have been having trouble logging in but now I am back. Haha
