Yesterday we were up and out the door by 8.15 a.m. I had a busy day planned.
” Its a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” (Lord of the Rings)

On our drive to Rotorua we took the thermal highway. The road is relatively straight in places but it’s so surreal. First we saw plumes of steam from the pool we had soaked in the day before billowing up over the trees. Then as the road heads into arrable land, we could see steaming streams and even the ditches were steaming. As the land sloped away a very strange eerie mist had formed the the valley. We were listening the Hobbit soundtrack and at that point it was playing The Misty Mountains!
Our first stop was spontaneous although I had it earmarked as a place I would like to visit. Wai-o-Tapu is an active geothermal spot. It costs to go in but its worth it. Huge pools and craters of mud, oil and other salts. The colours of the salts amd pools are so striking and startling its like a giants paint pallette.
The very strong smell of sulfer was making me cough. Lee had the quote of the day when he said “Its not that bad it smells like Dad’s egg sandwiches” All I can say to that is, Chris those eggs are off!

LOTR “He used to often say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary.”
I know you two are like shadows of your former selves and the picture now proves it lol how mystical you now both look tall and thin😂…..btw Lee I think you maybe getting up early to do your own pack up when you get back…and now you have had practice getting up early..there’s no excuse🤔🤣🤣🤣…look forward to part two!
