Australia – Daintree revisited

Let me introduce Maya, Maya, Yuna and me!

I hired a car to go back to the Daintree for a day and invited the girls from my digs. Although it rained pretty much all day and nearly all the board walks were up for repair, we had a good time.

It was very interesting to hear how they view each others nations. The Japanese are very neat and ‘just so’ although Yuna said she was not like that at all and hated it. The Koreans make cute things apparently, and the Chinese are brash (I think my Dad would agree). Maya (Chinese) thought the English in London were racist and London was unsafe although she has not been (yet). I am fairly convinced they now think all English women are eccentric!
For me, I just felt tall and buxom all day! Yay!

We stopped for ice-cream, according to our landlord the Daintree is famous for it. It was peculiar as they made it heavily spiced but I enjoyed it non the less. I was very taken with a red palm in the gardens here (it’s not native).

If your wondering why it looks like a bamboo, both come from the same classification but, from different families. I had never seen the connection before so this was a revelation to me.

We spent a while on the Thornton beach watching ghost crabs scuttling about and rushing to their burrows. I’m not sure all the girls were as fascinated as I was however, they they showed polite willing.

There was not much birdwatching to be had as most self respecting birds dive for cover when it rains but, I was glad to have returned and had one last day there.
