While staying at the Hidden Palace, Clare needed a few things to dress her foot, which is healing pretty well. So we wandered into the small town of Bhalwari (it’s really just an area of ribbon development along the road from Butwal towards the Indian border).
Clare managed to get more or less what she needed and then we went to look for a needle and thread to sort out her flapping hat. At a tailors and after a lot of miming we were given a needle and thread. The lady was so smiley and it was such a sweet thing to do. The next day we returned with a sort of Florentine biscuit to give her by way of a thank you. Clare went to buy more stuff from the same Smiley woman’s second shop next door and then she invited us for tea! I ended up sat where I was, knitting for a different woman who was learning to knit! It’s funny the simple things we have in common.
Clare disappeared off into yet another shop and caused absolute chaos with a small cash transaction, she was confused and so was the shop keeper! Two chaps tried to sort it out with pigeon English. Thinking the matter was sorted we went to have tea. We chatted for a while with the smiley woman and looked at videos of her dancing with her family. She was just so delighted we spent time with her. She also invited us to dinner and to stay the night but, it’s just as well we declined because I had already eaten far too much.
Then on on the way back, the two chaps who had tried to sort out the chaos in the shop came running after us because the matter was still not resolved, they were apologetic!! I’m not sure how everyone got in such a pickle!
Back at the hotel one of staff sat and had coffee with us and asked us our “Nepali Names”. We told her we didn’t have any so she gave us the following….for Clare “Maya” meaning Love (I absolutely agree!), and for me “Pari” meaning Princess. Hahahaha! Ooh! What shall I wear Diamonds or Pearls?

Anyway note to self allow at least an extra four hours to go shopping with Clare in Nepal (and maybe carry the money!)
Hi Princess Debs , here’s your crown 👑!! 🤣 I did laugh at that…seriously? Love is nice for Clare and by the time you leave you will know everyone personally and if you go back it seems that everyone will start offering you a bed and food!! On a serious note it’s really nice to hear and see the interaction between the two of you with the people of Nepal💕. It’s nice that you joined in with the knitting but please buy my cashmere shawl don’t knit it 👌🏻😂 I promise to send you the money as soon as you get home. Or let me know as soon as you get it and I’ll sort it out. Silver , black, brown, Navy Blue , yellow any of those colours except you know what! Glad you both know how to do charades so you got your needle and thread sorted 😂. Xxx
