Malaga Middle Ages

Malaga with the middle-ages

I wasn’t going to write about the interim days of our trip but I feel I must mention Malaga briefly. I’ve been coming to Spain for many years and I’ve always disregarded Malaga as a port of entry only. Well there is a lot more to it than that and I’m surprised I’ve never been.

We had to drive to Malaga to collect a friend at the airport later in the evening and decided to make a day of it.

We visited The Alcazaba (The Citadel) which is a fortified palace. Had we had time we would also have visited Gibralfaro castle linked to it. The complex was started in the 8th century, became a Moorish fortified palace in the 11th century and various additions thereafter. It sits on a hill with mount Gibralfaro (and fort) above and behind it. At the front there is a Roman theater so if your into you history there is lots for everyone.

We wandered for a good few hours through the rooms and gardens that are all interlinked and along the walls with wider veiws of the port and city. It is quite beautiful, good value too!

The old city is also interesting and lively.

So basically what I’m saying is if you get the chance, visit Malaga!
