Kuala Lumpur – Our First Servas Hosts

We were picked up at 8 am by Wai Leng and Yong Chong for a local eatery ‘Varum’ for Nasi Lemak (Indonesian Breakfast place). It was a kind of covered area and basic. The food was amazing and very popular with local people. I can see myself getting very fat here, it was so good.

It was lovely to hear about Servas here, all the members know each other and they have an active community.

Our Breakfast hosts were so keen for us to have a sort of pancake that was not on the menu so we drove to another place for ‘second’ breakfast. If you look in the photo there is what looks like a ‘sorting hat’ this Roti Tissue and it is sweet and served with condensed milk. Not condensed milk like we would get, which is cream like. This was more syrupy.

I’m not sure what our authorities would have made of this place, as we watched unconcerned two rats traverse a strut above the kitchen area at the back, as if they too were meeting for breakfast! Chong named them Pete and Ann!

Tatjana has been speaking a little Indonesian which is similar to Malaysian but has found it is not quite the same. I’m finding it hard even to get the basics of ‘good morning’ and ‘thank you’ into my head. Nearly everyone speaks English really well so here, it is not too tricky.

Then around midday we drove to meet our next hosts who would put us up for two nights, KhaiTzer and YenYen at their home in the North East of the city.
