From Taman Negara to Penang was going to take about 10 hours or so by bus.
We had decided to go via the The Cameron Highlands (the name clearly a link to its colonial past). I had read that it’s very touristy so we weren’t intending to stop long, just over night.
I was still struggling with the aching hips and legs but, it was finally getting better.
The Cameron Highlands is 1440 meters above sea level (higher than Ben Nevis). The climate is cooler, a pleasant 24 degrees Celsius, a welcome break from the heat and humidity. It’s a tea growing region and very very popular with local and foreign tourists. It’s famous for it’s Tea plantations and strawberries and we didn’t try either. It looks as though it’s an area for growing lots of different things.

We got one walk in. Trails are well marked and we headed to a couple of nearby waterfalls. Taman Eko Rimba Parit Falls were a bit disappointing because of the rubbish collecting along the banks but, as we took a slightly different route from the one marked we climbed into a rather nice woodland. It was good to be outside and getting some exercise.

I’ll pop this picture in as it was what we had in a cafe, really a coloured hot milk I think, the Blue Pea flavour not coming through at all.
The only other thing that sparked our attention was there was a Night Run, starting at 11pm the night we arrived. It was so hilly and so hot, even at night we could not imagine wanting to do anything so energetic.
According to Wikipedia that fern is called Matonia.
