A place not in our guide books but worth a visit is LagOmar http://www.lag-o-mar.com/ the former home of Omar Sharif who lost it in a card game. Its so cool in every way, designed by Cesar Manrique and using the holes and bubbles in the volcanic rock as room.
Right next door is a small resevoir, good for Shrike or butcher birds which impale their victims on thorns (not another movie reference).
We also visited the César Manrique Foundation that was similar but in my view not as good.
Julie has eyes in the back of her head, she’s our spotter. Butterflies seem to appear and disappear very quickly. There are lots of Painted Ladies (Cynthia cardui). Julie saw a Monarch Butterfly , (Danaus plexippus) in Yaiza. It was beautiful but flew off at great speed, not before Julie ran into the bushes brandishing her camera and snapped it.
Unfortunately her snap happy nature got us into trouble with a shop owner in the Artisan Centre at Yaiza. A rather different painted lady who ranted at us in Spanish and end with “Please I’m having a bad day”, no sh*t sherlock! I cannot imagine she gets many customers.
The Cafe on the other hand was lovely Café Antigua Escuela http://cafedeyaiza.com/. We were persuaded to have fresh lemonade which was fabulous.

Hope you have a picture of the Monarch butterfly. Love to see it.
