New Zealand – Gallantry is not dead

It’s funny how you can sometimes just hit it off with someone instantly, like the hitchhikers Angelika and Christina who I’ve been in contact with since we met a month ago.
Well yesterday it happened again, not a Hitchhiker though, this time the tables had turned!!
I’m in a rather drab hotel in the Auckland suburbs, I fly out to Australia tomorrow. I had returned the snail in the morning and was a bit limited as to what I could do or see for the rest of the day. I dawdled to the shops which were very run down and to a very boring park.
The hotel has a bar but Im not a prop-up-the-bar sort of girl…
Anyway I found out there was Ceroc dancing on in the evening not too far away and I asked the hotel to book me a taxi.
So I went out for the evening. The music wasn’t entirely to my taste and I did wonder if I would be getting an early taxi back. However everyone was friendly and I pretty much danced all evening. Also I got chatting to a few people in what seems to be the NZ way and the time flew by.
I had been dancing and talking to Ian, who’s wife is English and currently in Guildford visiting family! We all carried on chatting and Ian waited with me for my taxi which was late. Everybody drifted off and well, my taxi didn’t show. After a couple of phone calls attempting to find out where it was (I wasn’t too keen on the idea of walking 4 miles at night in a run down area),
Ian offered to drive me back. Again I can hear you shouting at me! “Aye Aye Debs picked up another strange man” or “how on earth has she lived so long”. I accepted the lift and of course he was a perfect gent. I have found that dancing people are good like this and as a result I now have a contact and an invite to visit when I return in two years time.
So re packing my bag today, ready for my flight.
I’m thinking about how much I’ve enjoyed both Tasmania and New Zealand the countryside and the people.
Looking through my of pictures of the past couple of months, I thought I post these. Four seasons in two months.
