Onto day two of Sarahs mid life crisis.
I felt groggy having not slept all that well. I may have been the alcohol (I’m such a light weight), I was comfortable but, I was conscious of disturbing Sarah and she was the same!
Anyway with a porridge pot for breakfast and after packing a lunch we set off for Three Cliffs Bay.
The bay is just stunning. What more can anyone want? Silver sands, calm sea, Sand dunes, cliffs and rock pools, a river with a stepping stone crossing and a ruined Castle overlooking it all.
The weather was sunny and a bit windy.
As we came out of the sand dunes there were thousands of small bees around our ankles, a swarm if you like but, not honey bees. There were several in rolling together on the sand while others had holes under the vegetation. As you can see I was fascinated, being something of a nerd but, Sarah was less impressed and wanting to get passed them quickly.

I have since found out via Maria (of my Lanzarote adventures fame) that these are Ivy Bees, a realtivley new bee to the British Isles. The bundles of bees were several males trying to mate with a female, not sure if thats lucky or not!
Bees left behind we found a spot near to the rocks to sit. Sarah loaned me a wetsuit and so looking like some kind of cladded asexual aliens we went in for a dip, it was fabulous! It was warmer than I expected and exceptionally calm.

Because Sarah is like a whippet she gets cold quickly but she seemed ok. I did note though she ran back to our stuff once we got out. (In fact there was quite a bit of running when the wind whipped stuff from our pockets. It even got other people running after out inadvertent littering, good effort peoples!)
We changed and ate our gritty sandwiches that wouldn’t be complete without the sand which was blowing up around us.
We took our things back to the van and then set off walking.
Its a fairy tale place, stepping stones across the stream and then on our way up to the ruined Pennard Castle.
As we walked we became aware of a commotion with a small dog running loose was snapping and yapping at a horse. The horse was shying and stamping. It was quite scary to watch, the rider had fabulous control. The owner of the dog was chasing the dog and Im suprised no one (including the animals) got hurt.
Pennard Caslte is a ruin which I since have found out is supposed to have fairies and a witch, neither are meant to be friendly if you stay overnight.
It is believed to have been built in the 12th Century, abandoned, rebuilt and abandoned again.
The veiws are fantastic.

We continued along the coastal path towards Westcliff and more tea and cake!

Comming back the same way we managed to get off the path somehow traipsed in the endless dunes till we found our way down.

Back to the campsite and ordered a fish and chip supper at https://www.chipsahoyscurlage.co.uk/ which was delicious especially the curry sauce!
I ate far too much, I just can’t keep up with Sarah. I thought my metabolism fast, hers is tremendous! We watched a movie on my phone before another early night with Noah!
