Lockdown and dog bites

Thursley

Well again there is a hiatus in my writing but, again it’s not me being idle it’s just my walks are local and often with an informal walking group. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind me writing about them but as I go out several times a week it could get very boring for you and me. Not that they are boring, far from it… they have been a god send during the lockdowns and general Covid related restrictions. In fact if it wasn’t for these ad-hoc ‘meet ups’ and the laughter they generate I could have been pretty lonely I think.

I decided to write today so that I can get back into writing as it’s easy to get out of practice and I remember how difficult I found it at the beginning.

What have you been doing to keep sane?

Some of my friends and family are working and those who are not, keep busy in various ways. I have one friend who has loved lockdown and actually wants it to remain forever and another who has thrown herself into conservation work! One of my fellow travel Bloggers has started writing short stories! Just to reassure…you I’m not going to do the same although I think some of my escapades could be worthy of a short story.

I have ‘ants in my pants! I physically feel a need to keep moving and meeting people. I like being on my own but, very much on my terms.

I have been contacting and trying to see someone everyday, whether that is walking and having a picnic in the freezing weather ( with my son the other day) or just phoning a friend.

I went out walking with Clare ( from the walking group) a few weeks ago and got bitten by a dog!

Why do people who know their dogs are a problem not keep them on a lead? This particular person had about 6 dogs so I suspect she was a dog-walker and she was squatting on the side of a lane holding one down and verbally controlling the others.

Clare and I didn’t think anything of it but, as we got to about 20 foot away the whole lot ran at us snapping and snarling. It was quite frightening. One nipped the back of my leg and It wasn’t until we were passed I realised my leg was bleeding.

I did tell the woman what had happened and that the dogs needed to be on a lead but I wasn’t going to approach her again so what could be done? I did report it to the police when I got home and I did get some pictures of her from a distance.

To be honest Clare was more scarey than the dogs when she took care of my leg (she’s a nurse) telling me off for poking the wound!

It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door! (To quote Tolkien)
